Calgary community donates old skating rink

What’s old will soon be new again in the case of an outdoor skating rink being donated to a hamlet west of Calgary.

As the Strathcona, Christie and Aspen Community Association gets ready to build a new skating facility, it’s setting its 20-year-old outdoor hockey rink aside for the hamlet of Lac Des Arc located about 90 km west of Calgary.

According to The Calgary Sun, the community association was trying to find someone who’d take the rink for free, and that’s when the call came in from a committee member in the small community of about 80 homes.

While Lac Des Arc waits for approval from the M.D. of Bighorn, they’ll keep the dismantled rink in storage.
