City buzzing with international festivities

The city is basking in international flavour all weekend with three cultural festivals on the go.

Calgarians can flock to Prince’s Island Park Friday for the kickoff of Expo Latino, running all weekend.

The event features dancing, live entertainment, music, a food fair, an art market and beer gardens.

Starting at 6 p.m. Friday, festival-goers can take in entertainment from the groups Latin All-Star and the Pana Band among others, and a salsa dance showcase goes at 9 p.m.

Tickets are $25 for the whole weekend or $10 each day, and they’re available at Prince’s Island Park.

On Saturday, It’s the last chance to take in some of the most spectacular fireworks displays in the world this weekend, with the grand finale of Globalfest, starting at 6:30 p.m.

Admission to the international event at Elliston Park is $15 at the gate entrance.

Other attractions at Globalfest include cultural pavilions, entertainment stages, ethnic food booths, an international bar and a night market.

On Sunday, there’s an opportunity to get exposure to India’s distinct cultural offerings.

The third annual India Fest goes at Shaw Millennium Park downtown, featuring live music and dance performances, South Asian food stalls, clothing and jewelry vendors, Bollywood dance lessons, henna artists, yoga instruction and more.

It goes from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., and admission is free.
