Fire ban issued for Rocky View County; none issued for Calgary

A fire ban has been issued for Rocky View County due to dry and windy conditions.
Fire Chief Ken McMullen says since there’s a severe risk of a fire starting, residents must hold off lighting incinerators, burning barrels, charcoal briquette BBQs, camp fires and chimneys.
Still permitted are use of camp stoves, liquid fuel BBQs, household fireplaces and appliances in designated camping and recreation areas.
Meanwhile, there seems to be some confusion when it comes to a fire ban for Calgary.
Fire’s Brian McAsey tells 660News, the province has a fire ban in place for some campgrounds and recreation areas.
Calgary fire crews haven’t had to deal with a large number of grass fires recently. Water resources are also in good condition and city parks and grasslands aren’t especially dry.
As always, Calgarians are asked to be safe with fire pits, solid fuel barbeques and burn barrels.
The city doesn’t expect to issue a fire ban in the foreseeable future.
