Tropical Storm Irene approaches eastern Canada

Tropical storm Irene is giving eastern Canada a thorough drenching and has caused some power outages in Quebec.
Hydro Quebec says roughly 180,000 customers are without power, mostly in the Montreal area.
Heavy rain has also been reported in parts of Atlantic Canada.
Chris Fogerty of the Canadian Hurricane Centre in Halifax says, Irene will continue pushing through to the region overnight.
He says the heaviest rainfall is expected in Quebec, while high winds and pounding surf are more of a concern in Nova Scotia and New Brunswick.
Winds could reach 110 kilometres an hour in parts of western Nova Scotia and southwestern New Brunswick.
Air travel has been affected Sunday between Canada and major eastern cities in the U.S. with dozens of flight cancellations.
