An advertising campaign for an Edmonton salon is stirring up a lot of controversy with the latest in a series of ads depicting images of domestic violence and high-risk lifestyles.
Fluid Salon launched the six-ad series, entitled “Look good in all you do,” over a year ago.
According to the Sun, a New York advertising blogger saw the ad today, posted it and negative reaction began pouring in.
The ad in question shows a well-dressed man standing behind a couch holding a diamond necklace while a woman sits on the couch with a black eye and dishevelled hair.
Comments to the salon’s Facebook page include people saying they’re disgusted, that domestic violence is never sexy, cool or hip and that the ad glorifies violence against women.
Others posted the ad shows a huge lack of insight, especially considering their market is likely predominantly women.
Other comments however, say people should not jump to conclusions and need to realize the ad raises awareness that abuse is never acceptable.
Another posting says the ad does not justify abuse but brings attention to the need for change.
