An extradition hearing is set to begin Monday in Calgary for a man accused of war crimes in Guatemala.
Jorge Vinicio Orantes Sosa is wanted in the U.S. on immigration charges, and in his home country for allegedly participating in deadly attacks on Guatemalan villages in the 1980s.
Those attacks killed more than 250 people.
Sosa’s lawyer says unlike criminal trials, in an extradition hearing, the burden of proof is much lower.
Sosa has been in custody since he was arrested in Lethbridge in January.
