Calgary Fire Dept. honours its fallen

Calgary firefighters and members of the public gathered outside of City Hall over the noon hour Thursday to pay tribute to the 26 members who died working as firefighters.

Fire Chief Bruce Burrell and the president of the firefighters union, Mark Faires, made speeches during the ceremony while the Calgary Fire Department Honour Guard looked on.

The CFD Pipes and Drums Band performed the last ringing of the bell for each of the 26 fallen members.

“By honouring the memories of those who lost their lives in service of others, we are reminded of the incredible dedication of firefighters,” said Fire Chief Bruce Burrell.

“It is my hope that the families of our fallen members can take comfort and gain strength from the support of the Calgary Fire Department from the respect and appreciation of Calgarians,” he said.
