Man rescued from Bow River

The fire department rescued a 26-year-old man stranded on an island in the Bow River just after midnight Wednesday.

He set off Tuesday afternoon from the Bowness Bridge in a two-person dingy, and floated for 10 hours until after dark.

When he realized he was lost, he called friends with his cell phone who then called 911.

Rescuers found him on Poplar Island near 130th Avenue Southeast using GPS from the phone.

The man wasn’t hurt; just cold.
