Are ongoing delays in the approval of the Keystone XL Pipeline project straining Canada’s relationship with the United States?
The Republican Senator who chairs the Congressional Energy Committee thinks so.
Tommy Moffat issued his apologies to his Canadian friends and colleagues for the bruising that our longtime relationship has taken.
University of Toronto Political Scientist Nelson Wiseman, calls the comments nothing more than political posturing, with the Republicans simply piling on the Democrat White House.
“I don’t think it’s a delay at all. I don’t see anybody in the oil patch in Alberta complaining about it and I don’t see anybody in Ottawa complaining about it,” says Wiseman
He adds the overwhelming sentiment is the $7 billion project that will boost oilsands shipments to the Gulf Coast will be approved.
If not, he says Canada and the oil patch will get busy trying to build a pipeline to the West Coast instead.
