Third fatal CTrain accident in less than three weeks

A cyclist has been hit and killed by a C-Train in the city’s northeast.
It happened around 7:15 Friday morning at 36th Street and Rundlehorn Drive.
The man was trying to cross to 20th Avenue, when he was struck by a northbound train and dragged for 20 to 30 feet.
Duty Inspector Darren Cave says the man was on the tracks at the time, watching a southbound train pass.
One eye witness, Ken tells 660News the man didn’t even see it coming.
“The signals were down and the driver of the train had his horn on right through the intersection,” he says.
He believes the train was traveling about 50 kilometres an hour and was starting to slow down as it approached the Sunridge station.
“These intersections where people cross the streets are just incredibly and completely insane,” he says, still visibly shaken. “They don’t give you time to cross the road or give you enough warning.
According to paramedics, the victim was pronounced dead at the scene.
This is the third C-Train fatality in less than three weeks.
Cave believes there’s no real rhyme or reason as to the sudden spike in accidents, crediting a run of bad luck.
Police have identified the victim as a man in his 50’s who lives in the area.
