Drive continues to fund IVF

A family fun day goes at Canada Olympic Park Saturday to help celebrate the 10-thousand babies born through in vitro fertilization in the region.

Tim Halpen with the Generations of Hope Fertility Assistance Fund, which helps families needing the procedure, tells 660News they also hope the event helps boost their petition.

“We have been lobbying the provincial government for several years to fund fertility treatments in a similar fashion that Quebec recently approved.  It is a very expensive treatment, it can reach 10 to 15 thousand dollars per attempt and that can be very onerous, with no guarantee of success,” says Halpen.

Halpen says they’re hoping for 10-thousand names on the petition but still have a long way to go.

The family fun day goes Saturday from 11 a.m. until 3 p.m. at C-O-P.

“It is a free admission event.  We’ll have carnival games, bouncy gyms, a petting zoo, crafts, face-painting and we’ll be celebrating family, the ten-thousandth birth and we’ll be advocating for the petition,” says Halpen.
