Spruce Meadows Masters a success

Microsoft founder and billionaire Bill Gates was among the record crowd who saw Canadian Eric Lamaze and his mount “Hickstead” regain their crown, win the $1-million CN International.

Nearly 90,000 people cheered him to victory on Sunday at the Spruce Meadows Masters.

The Calgary Sun reports Gates flew in with his daughter, who had a riding lesson and joined her dad to walk the international ring and meet with some of the competitors.

Organizers credit the great weather for the huge turnout of more than 250,000 over five days.
