United Way campaign kicks off

A colourful noon-hour parade through downtown Calgary Monday signaled the start of a new United Way campaign.
The annual event brings thousands together for a common goal.
United Way President Ruth Ramsen-Wood says helping low-income families learn to manage high debt-loads is among the priorities this year, along with high dropout rates among Alberta youth.
She says change happens when people come together. The theme for this year’s campaign is ‘Change Starts Here.’
The United Way supports more than a hundred local service agencies that deliver prevention-based programs aimed at improving lives and strengthening the community.
