Body found after southeast explosion

One person is dead and two others are injured after an explosion and fire in Calgary’s southeast.

The police arson unit was called in after firefighters found a body while battling the resulting blaze.

It happened in a green space in an industrial area in the 1500 block of Manitou Road; police say it could be a squatter’s camp.

The two injured men are in hospital suffering burns; there’s no word on whether the deceased is a man or woman.

Riley tells 660News he was working late at a printing shop across the road when he heard the explosion.

“It was just like coming through the two walls here, like a big speaker echoing through the two windows,” he says.

He says several smaller blasts could be heard and described the fire as a massive, glowing orange ball.
