New report show immigrants need government’s assistance

A new report by the Federation of Canadian Municipalities takes a look at the obstacles new immigrants face and their role in shaping Canada’s economy.

FCM spokesperson Berry Vrbanovic tells 660News, the report shows immigrants need assistance with finding adequate affordable housing, public transit systems and accessing community services to help them succeed.

The report calls on the federal government to engage in a dialogue and coordinate with other levels of government.

The release cites a program in place in Ontario since 2005 where the federal government is working with other agencies and levels of government to address issues important to immigrants and the FCM feels this model should be expanded across Canada.
