It doesn’t look like Calgary will be rid of photo radar any time soon.
Alderman Diane Colley-Urquhart, who also sits on the Calgary Police Commission, tells The Calgary Sun it would be hard to replace the $40-million in annual revenue it generates.
Strathcona County near Edmonton opted to stop doing photo radar following a public outcry that it’s being used in a predatory way.
They’re hiring the equivalent of five enforcement officers instead.
Colley-Urquhart says it’s not a good option for Calgary because we’re already contemplating freezing recruit classes and not hiring anymore to save money.
