An appeal hearing in the case of the ousted chief and council of the Bearspaw First Nation has been cancelled, ending the legal battle plaguing the native band for months.
The Calgary Herald reports a lawyer for former Chief David Bearspaw and four band councillors filed documents last month to stop their appeal of a Federal Court decision that forced the leaders from office.
Chief Bearspaw came under fire after making changes to election rules, allowing him to lengthen his term in office by two years.
Following the June ruling, the 1,700-person tribe held an election to replace him in August.
