Northeast fire causes $20,000 in damages

A woman was forced to jump out of a window after her Vista Heights home caught fire Friday afternoon.

Crews were called to reports of a blaze at a townhouse in the 1900 block of 19th Street Northeast shortly after 1:00 p.m.

It’s not known what sparked the blaze which is believed to have caused an estimated $20,000 dollars in damages.

Brian McAsey with the Calgary Fire Department tells 660News the woman had already managed to get out of the home by the time crews got to the scene.

“When the crews arrived there were flames and smoke coming out of the windows on the main floor of the two story townhouse,” he said.

“A woman, who had just narrowly escaped the fire, jumped out of one of the windows,” McAsey said.

The woman was not injured.
