Brace for strong winds early this week

VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – It’s been very windy today and it’s probably going to get worse in time for your commute tomorrow.
News1130 meteorologist Russ Lacate says the winds are really going to pick up, with gusts of up to 80 kilometres per hour.
“It’s a south-easterly making more of a direct hit. I’ve got 70 to 80 kilometres per hour winds in my Monday morning forecast and that’s to go with an awful lot of rain.”
He says places along the border, like Abbotsford and Langley will get pummeled. Greg Alexis with BC Hydro says that means customers should plan for an outage.
“There will always be outages and that’s why we always advise customers to be ready with a power outage kit and possibly be prepared for any lengthy outage for at least 72-hours.”
He encourages people to go around their property and to check to make sure everything is tied down so nothing blows away. Alexis adds it’s also time to check your flashlight batteries and get a few things together to make sure you can outlast an outage.
