Lengthy Alberta PC leadership race coming to an end

The handshaking and baby kissing for the remaining candidates in the race to replace retiring Alberta Premier Ed Stelmach is almost over.
On Saturday, October 1st, Progressive Conservative party members across the province will head to the polls to elect a new leader.
Eighty-eight polling stations will be open between 9:00 a.m. and 7:00 p.m.
Results will be released Saturday night in Edmonton; 660News will pass along the numbers as soon as they are available.
Front-runner Gary Mar is hoping history doesn’t repeat.
In the last two PC leadership races, the first ballot winner was upset on the second ballot.
That is how both Ralph Klein and Ed Stelmach won in 1992 and 2006 respectively.
Most political observers believe Mar will emerge victorious because he had such a big lead on his main challengers Alison Redford and Doug Horner, following the first ballot.
Meanwhile, outgoing Premier Ed Stelmach says the high point of his time in office was when he signed the New West Partnership back in April 2010, creating the largest free-trade zone in Canada.
