Honeymoon for Alberta’s premier-designate is over

Even before newly elected P.C. Leader Alison Redford is sworn in, the Wildrose has launched a series of election-style attack ads.

The opposition party questions Redford’s ability to bring about the change Albertans want.

One of the ads says Redford promised fixed election dates, yet she now won’t say when the writ might be dropped.

Another ad says Redford says she doesn’t support Ed Stelmach’s policies, but not once did she vote against anything Stelmach did.

University of Windsor political scientist Cheryl Collier calls the ads “slick” and “effective”.

Collier says the Wildrose is trying to define who Alison Redford is, even before she has a chance to show people what she can do.

She says politics have changed over the years, with most parties realizing they need to campaign each and every day if they hope to have success on election day, whenever that day is.
