40th murder of the year in Edmonton?

First in murders; last in the NHL. That sums up life in Edmonton in 2011.

Saturday, Edmonton Police discovered a man in a boarded up, northeast home after responding to an early morning call about an assault.

The 35-year-old man died at the scene, and police have taken two men — ages 52 and 34 — into custody for questioning.

If it is a murder, it would be the city’s 40th of the year, breaking the record of 39 in the provincial capital which was established in 2005.

By comparison, Calgary has had six murders this year, and Toronto — the nation’s biggest city — 36.

Police in Edmonton say they won’t be releasing any more details about what they’re calling a suspicious death until autopsy results are released on Monday or Tuesday.
