Calgary urologist stresses importance of PSA testing

A local urologist is speaking out against an American group that has called PSA screening ineffective.

Dr. Bryan Donnelly is the head of Urology at Rockyview Hospital and tells 660News this is not the first time he’s heard of the group.

“A preventative task force in the United States that is a somewhat controversial body that assesses various tests in medicine and then makes a judgment on them. This is the same group that is opposed to mammography for the detection of breast cancer in women,” says Donnelly.

He adds he cannot stress enough the importance of early detection.

Last month Rockyview Hospital helped break a Guinness World Record after nearly 1,000 men underwent the PSA screening tests.
