Calgary: cultural capital of Canada?

Cowtown will soon find out if it’ll be crowned the 2012 Cultural Capital of Canada.
Heritage Minister James Moore will tell us this week if we’ve been bestowed the distinction with the 100th anniversary of the Calgary Stampede on the horizon.
The other candidate is the Niagara region in southern Ontario as Canada marks the 200th anniversary of the War of 1812.
But no need to get competitive; The Calgary Herald reports the feds are open to showcasing both.
Even if we do end up losing, we’re still getting a party for which city council has pledged $2-million.
