It’s the official kick-off to flu season as Alberta Health Services opens its clinic doors to anyone over six months of age in good health who wants a free flu shot.
AHS’ Dr. Judy MacDonald says it’s especially important for infants, seniors and anyone with pre-existing medical conditions to get the vaccine because they’re vulnerable to dangerous complications brought on by the flu. But, she adds, everyone will benefit from the shot, which is comparable in nature to last year’s.
For those wary of needles, a new nasal immunization spray will be made available privately, and will not be paid for by AHS or available at AHS clinics. Dr. MacDonald says to consult with your doctor or pharmacist for availability. She does, however, point out only those between the ages of two and 59 are eligible for the nasal spray immunization.
