Daniel Tschetter denied day parole

An emotional and tear filled parole hearing at Bowden Prison on Wednesday for a Cochrane man convicted of manslaughter in a horrific Calgary car crash four years ago.
The hearing ended with 54 year-old Daniel Tschetter being denied day parole.
He apologized to the families of his victim for the first time for his role in the crash along MacLeod Trail that killed three young children and two adults.
Tracey Grieder, who lost her 16-month-old nephew, talked about her reaction to the apology.
“In some ways it did, in some ways it didn’t. I don’t think you’ll ever feel any better about it. You know, I think when he gets out and he starts to prove himself maybe I’ll feel better about it. I’d like to be able to forgive him but I don’t know if I ever will,” says Grieder
The parole board decided Tschetter needs to be slowly reintegrated into the community so they denied him day parole but did allow him temporary unescorted absences.
The CP’s Bill Graveland who was at the hearing explains how that works.
“In those absences, for the first month he’s only aloud to be gone for a 24 hour period. That goes up to 48 hours for month two and 72 hours month three,” reports Graveland.
Tschetter was sentenced to five and a half years in prison in October of 2009, but will be released in 2013 when he’s served two thirds of his sentence.
