Man dead in police-involved shooting

Witnesses report hearing multiple gunshots Thursday night before a man was killed by Calgary police.
The man died at the scene of the shooting, which happened around 10:00 p.m. Thursday in the northwest community of Citadel after officers responded to a domestic dispute.
Police say when they arrived, a man inside a house came at them with a weapon and witnesses also say they saw investigators place a camping axe in a cruiser.
A neighbour tells 660News the area’s been peaceful until recently, when police shut down a grow-op across the street.
The Alberta Serious Incident Response Team is handling the investigation; that’s the independent body responsible for looking into officer-involved injury or death incidents.
The CEO of the Calgary Counselling Centre says if it was in fact a domestic dispute that escalated so bad police had to be called, the man’s death could have been prevented with one phone call to the centre
Dr. Robbie Babins-Wagner tells 660News there’s more than one way to reach out for help.
“Give us a call. We have people on the phones everyday between from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. who will be happy to talk to you. You can put an inquiry on our online intake form and we’ll get back to you the next morning but the most important thing is to pick up the phone and call,”says Babins-Wagner
She adds the centre helps both the victims and aggressors of domestic violence.
