Human remains found in Gleichen

RCMP in Gleichen are investigating a suspicious death after a body was found in a Siksika First Nation field, Friday afternoon.

At this point the Mounties aren’t releasing the name of the victim or the cause of death until an autopsy is completed.

Sergeant Patrick Webb tells 660News, they are working with a tentative identification of the victim, adding the deceased had been there for some time.

“Not really recent,” says Webb in answering the question how long the body had been there. “In other words, it’s not over the last couple of days” (that the person had died). “We’re not talking about very old remains being found out there.  This is simply somebody that’s died within the last few weeks. We do have what we believe is a fairly strong tentative ID.  But we have to wait for the medical examiner to give us an autopsy which will provide not only cause of death, but also that positive ID that we need.”

Autopsy results should be available Monday.

The RCMP’s Major Crimes Unit and Forensic Identification Section are taking part in the investigation.
