Kids’ cancer camp gets financial boost

Several agencies have come together this week to build a better camp for Albertan children with cancer.

The groups donated $875,000 that will go towards upgrading and renovating Camp Kindle in Water Valley.

Founder and Chief Executive Officer of Kids Cancer Care, Christine McIver tells 660News on Saturday the camp has been around for 50 years, but many buildings need to be updated.

In addition to a new pool, camp roadways and infrastructure are also in the works.

A ropes course, double-zip line and climbing wall were recently installed.

The upgrades are designed to make the camp more accessible for kids with disabilities, more hygienic for sick children and will bring the facility up to current building codes.

Construction work at Camp Kindle already started this fall and should be done by June 2012.

$5 million of the $8 million fundraising target has already been raised.
