Unicef Halloween campaign aims high

The kids aren’t carrying those little orange boxes while out ‘trick-or-treating’ anymore.
Unicef took the campaign virtual a few years ago.
The organization, which provides aid to children in 150 countries world-wide, is focussing its fundraising this year on education.
Sue Larkin with Unicef tells 660News one of the items the funding will help provide is a ‘school in a box’ for kids affected by disaster, like the earthquake in Turkey or the flooding in Pakistan.
“It’s got enough school resources for about 80 kids, so a teacher can hold a class under a tree, in a tent, or somewhere outside of any buildings that might have been affected by the emergency. Kids get a sense of normalcy when they go back to school,” says Larkin.
The funds will also provide things like tents, so classes can be held in them, and bicycles for kids who couldn’t otherwise get to school.
They’ve set the fundraising goal at $2 million for this year which, Larkin says, would send help to more than five million kids.
