Cougar warning near Banff

A cougar warning has been issued in the Banff area.

Wildlife officials says it’s for the slopes of Sulphur Mountain after three hikers were followed for 20 minutes by a big cat this past weekend.

A park official says they don’t believe the animal was stalking the hikers.

He tells The Calgary Herald it might have been curious, it may have been a female with a kitten and felt uncomfortable, or it may have been protecting a kill.

The official says it’s still prudent to put out a warning to let people know they need to be cautious.
