The number of car thefts in Calgary has plummeted in the past few years, with the Beltline leading the way.
Across the city, the number is down more than a third since 2008, while thefts in the Beltline are down by more than half.
Acting Staff Sgt. Jason Walker tells The Calgary Herald two police programs have made a big difference.
The first sees a bait car set up with surveillance equipment to trigger a police response if someone tries to take it.
The second has to do with the work of a team that tracks, investigates and apprehends car thieves full-time.
