City blames media for continued protest

Occupy Calgary protestors are showing no signs of budging from Olympic Plaza despite City Officials pushing for them to vacate.

Now the City is suggesting “media attention on demonstrators” is to blame for the continued protests.

Tom Sampson, Deputy Chief of Emergency Management, tells the Calgary Sun he thinks it’s unfortunate that Occupy Calgary gets so much media, because in some ways, he thinks it spurs them on.

Sampson dismissed suggestions the situation is the City’s own doing by allowing  demonstrators to camp at Olympic Plaza.

“We’ve acted respecting people’s right to express their opinion.”

Local protestors originally set up camp on St. Patrick’s Island but felt they could garner more attention camping out at Olympic Plaza.

City Officials maintain protestors, need to clear the plaza today, but that plea is being ignored by demonstrators who show no sign of leaving.
