Edmonton based soldier killed in Afghanistan

Master Corporal Byron Greff was with the 3rd Battalion Princess Patricia’s Canadian Light Infantry. Greff was among 17 people who were killed today after a Taliban suicide bomber rammed his vehicle into an armoured NATO bus that was travelling between bases in Kabul.

Five of the dead were soldiers while the others were civilian employees.

Greff was serving as a mentor and trainer as part of Canada’s training mission in Afghanistan.

It’s the first Canadian death in Afghanistan since the military ended its combat mission earlier this year. Some 920 Canadian military personnel are still in the country doing training.

The attack along a busy thoroughfare in the Afghan capital also killed four Afghans.
