Fire at abandoned home in the southwest

An evening house fire is now under control.

Fire crews and police responded to the home in the 500 block of 14th Avenue southwest at around 8:30 Sunday night.

Detective Julian Klyne tells 660News investigators believe nobody was inside the home.

“This house was identified through Calgary By-law services as being abandoned and vacant. Officers attending including the Calgary Fire Department, the house was fully engulfed in flames and at the request of Calgary Fire, we were asked to block traffic for the safety of the public,” Klyne says.

Klyne says they believe people were using the home as a place to sleep or crash.

No word on the cause of the blaze or a damage estimate.
