The former head of Alberta Health Services says a shake-up in the healthcare system is needed to eliminate costly inefficiencies.
Steven Duckett says the government is spending more on healthcare than other provinces, but Albertans are living shorter lives.
He points to the wide range in what it costs to treat patients from one hospitals to the next, saying the huge variation amounts to a huge waste.
Duckett made the comments to reporters after a speech at Mount Royal University Wednesday.
