First “Occupy” group in Canada gets ready to pack up

After 27 days, St. Patrick’s Island occupiers will be folding up their tents, thanks to the Calgary Homeless Foundation.

Calgary Homeless Foundation CEO Tim Richter offered outreach support and permanent housing and the group accepted.

Camp representative Paul Hughes tells 660News, on Friday a number of representatives will be at St. Patrick’s Island to do an intake for all the participants of their camp.

He says “The time frame has not been established, but there is a monitoring process where there is an ad hoc committee that’s meeting every two days to monitor the process of these individuals until they’re placed”.

Hughes adds they are quite euphoric about these developments and are proud of what they were able to accomplish.

“We worked really hard towards this and we are very proud of what we have been able to accomplish.  There is a little bit of sadness, with living together for 27 days, we have become quite a tight team.

They are the first Occupy camp in Canada to leave.
