Alberta facing budget woes

Albertans are being told to expect a little more red ink when the government tables its second quarter update.

Finance Minister Ron Liepert suggests stock market dives and oil price swings have hurt the province’s bottom line.

“If you take a look at what’s transpired in the marketplace since the first quarter update, and you also take a look at what’s happened to oil prices since the first quarter update, I don’t think you don’t have to be an accountant to determine that probably it’s had an impact on our revenue stream,” he says.

Back in August, it was estimated the province would post a deficit of $1.3-billion  this year.

The second quarter update is expected to be released in the next couple of weeks.
