Policy group: Alberta should regulate alcohol

A public policy group suggests Alberta consider regulating alcohol like it does with tobacco for the sake of good health.
The Alberta Policy Coalition for Chronic Disease tells The Calgary Sun this province ranks near the top among Canadians in problem drinking, and the government should lead the way to promote moderation.
It’s recommending a higher drinking age, an alcohol tax and less advertising for booze.
Data from 2004 shows 15.3 per cent of drinkers in our province had a problem, compared with the national average of 13.6 per cent.
Alberta’s the only province with fully privatized liquor sales.
