Daylight Saving Time prompts energy emergency alerts

The recent time change prompted two energy emergency alerts in Alberta this week.

A level one emergency happened at 5:12 p.m. Tuesday.

An official with the Provincial Grid Operator tells The Calgary Herald every year when the time changes, there’s a peak over the supper rush at the same time house lights come on.

The grid operator called off the alert after 400 megawatts of wind power kicked in and helped power generation.
