Sources say ex-Calgary mayor tapped as envoy

Premier Alison Redford is expected to appoint former Mayor Dave Bronconnier as Alberta’s new trade envoy in Washington.

While Redford told reporters Tuesday she’ll move quickly to fill the former post of Gary Mar, she didn’t mention any names.

Then Tuesday night, three senior sources in Redford’s government told The Calgary Herald Bronconnier was expected to fill the role, with an announcement coming as early as Wednesday.

The premier is leaving on a trip to Washington D.C. next week to defend the oilsands.
