Drop in centre expecting bigger numbers with falling temperatures

Cold temperatures are here but even colder days are ahead. With that in mind, Drop- In Centre Spokesperson Louise Gallagher tells 660News an increase in the number of people stopping by the centre is expected.

“We’ve been averaging about between 1,050 to 1,100 a night. We have capacity for up to 1,200. What we’re really seeing is that we’ll see a spike. When it gets that cold, those people who are sleeping rough will come in, that’s the goal,” says Gallagher.

She adds, in about two weeks the centre will launch its “Christmas Wish List Campaign” and will be encouraging Calgarians to drop of warm gently used winter clothing at the D.I. loading dock.
