West LRT leg delayed and over-budget

A devastating blow to city infrastructure.
The West Leg of the LRT is $35-million over budget, and its completion date has been pushed back by four months.
The LRT, which was to be completely opened by December of 2012, will now not be open until spring of 2013.
Alderman Andre Chabot, chairman of the transportation committee, tells 660News the delay is the direct result of problems ATCO had in moving utilities in the area.
“I think some of it had to do with ground contamination and Alberta Environment’s approval before moving those lines,” said Alderman Chabot.
The Director of the City’s Transportation Department gave the update to the Transportation Committee, this afternoon.
