City officials start clearing Olympic Plaza

Olympic Plaza occupiers got a surprise when bylaw officers showed up and began clearing the premises Monday night.

Unoccupied tents were removed, but officers left occupied tents on the grounds.

Protestors tell 660News the city made its move Monday evening while many occupiers had gone for a walk to enjoy the mild weather.

By-Law Services Director Bill Bruce says protestors had plenty of notice before action was taken.

“We said we would post notices in the park what the rules were, we would serve personal notices after that we would write tickets,” he says.  “If there’s no compliance to what the signs say we would remove unoccupied tents and continue to write tickets for people that remain.”

Protestors say their resolve is not been shaken and they’re planning a rally ahead of Tuesday’s city council meeting.
