A friend of a woman killed in an explosion in Innisfail describes her as the nicest person you’d ever want to meet, and says she was a regular fixture in her church community.
Police have not released the victim’s name, but friends identify her to the Calgary Herald as Vicky Shachtay.
The 23-year old mother, who was confined to a wheel-chair because of a car crash, was killed at her townhouse complex in the town an hour north of Calgary on Friday morning.
Bomb experts from Edmonton and Ottawa are heading to the scene to determine if a package sent to the apartment suddenly exploded.
Another woman in the home at the time, a caregiver, was not injured.
Until it’s determined what caused the explosion, RCMP are urging people in Innisfail to be cautious and aware of any unexplained deliveries.
Shachtay was not known to police, and an autopsy will be done in Calgary on Monday.
