Wind havoc in Calgary closes downtown core

Sections of the Calgary downtown core remain closed to vehicles. Officials are still surveying the damage to the city after a massive wind storm that hit on Sunday afternoon.
Pedestrian traffic to and from the core has been restored, but the only vehicles allowed in are Calgary Transit buses.
The blocks between 7th Avenue, 9th Street, 9th Avenue and 7th Street S.W. are still closed to all vehicle and pedestrian traffic.
The blocks bordered by Stephen Avenue, 1st Street and 6th Avenue S.W., and Barclay Mall are closed to all vehicle and pedestrian traffic. This includes street level and elevated pedestrian walkways.
It is advised that commuters make alternate arrangements for travel to and from the downtown core for the Monday morning rush hour.
C-Train service is also unavailable through the downtown core.
The major wind storm left its wrath uprooting trees, breaking windows and a number power outages. Calgary was hit with wind gusts up to 90 kilometres per hour throughout Sunday afternoon.
An Alberta Emergency Alert was issued at 2 p.m.
