Province to cover windstorm damage costs

The province says it will cover a good portion of the damage caused by the weekend windstorm and the grass fire near Lethbridge.

Municipal Affairs Minister Doug Griffiths says municipalities will finish the cleanup assessment first, and then submit an application to the province under the disaster recovery plan.

Early unofficial estimates put the damage in the millions.

Griffiths tells The Calgary Herald they also cover private property damage that isn’t insurable.
