Accident creates road closure in the southwest

A major collision late Wednesday morning shut down east and west traffic on Anderson Road at 14th Street Southwest, where north-south traffic ground to a halt as well.

Adam Loria with Calgary EMS says one woman in her early 20’s was seriously injured in a collision at the intersection.

“Paramedics have transported a patient to hospital in critical, potentialy life-threatening condition,” Loria tells 660News.

A vehicle was traveling south on 14th Street, when it lost control, jumping the median and smashing head-on into another vehicle. The young woman involved in the accident is in critical condition.

Loria says it was relatively quiet before the crash.

“Since the snow began to fall, EMS has responded to just under 15 collisions.  Luckily again none of those have been serious, but unfortunately yes this was our first serious one of the day.”

Following a police investigation, the intersection re-opened again, in all four directions, around noon hour.
