Calgary commuters are being told to expect slow driving conditions as the city deals with a big blast of wintry weather.
Ahead of the storm, which is expected to contain as much as 10 centimetres of snow, road crews were laying down a thin layer of liquid calcium on the major arteries.
Sean Somers with the Roads department tells 660News once the snow starts to stick and accumulate, crews will switch over to a mixture of salt and pea size gravel.
Police are urging caution on hills, bridge decks and on / off ramps.
The city could announce parking bans on designated snow routes as a result of the snow fall.
Parking bans of 72 hours can be implemented anytime more than five centimetres of snow falls, forcing drivers to find other places to park their vehicles.
The storm is not impacting operations at Calgary International Airport, although drivers should give themselves a little extra time to get to and from the terminal.
Highway conditions are reported as fair; roads are snow covered with snow and blowing snow reducing visibility.
