Paxton torture trial

The defence is calling into question the testimony of witnesses in the torture trial of Dustin Paxton.
Lawyer Jim Lutz is in the third day of his final arguments in a trial that began over two months ago.
He says Robert Cannon, a key witness who testified he saw Paxton beat the alleged victim with a bamboo stick, has been proven to be nothing more than a liar and a thief.
He says Cannon’s memory was shaky and he was unable to keep a story straight.
Lutz also accused lead investigator Det. Doug Crippen of contaminating witnesses by telling them that others were corroborating their stories.
Paxton is charged with aggravated assault, sexual assault and forcible confinement after his former roommate was dropped off near death at Regina hospital last year.
